Licensing is essential
to confirming the roof installation is performed by qualified workers.
In Massachusetts, the Office of Consumer Affairs runs an arbitration
program to resolve disputes between registered contractors and
homeowners, and administers a Guaranty Fund for homeowners with unpaid
judgments against registered contractors.
In Massachusetts, all
individuals who perform roof replacement, siding, and window
replacement are required to hold both a Home Improvement Registration
and a Construction Supervisor's License. The Home
Improvement Contractor Law, chapter 142A of the Massachusetts General
Laws, requires any roofing contractor performing work on an
owner-occupied,
single-family or owner-occupied, multi-family home (with a maximum of
four units) to be registered with the Department. Check the website as
some specific types of work are exempt.
A licensed Construction
Supervisor will be in charge of the roofing installation at your home.
Ask to see his credentials.
As you compare us to
other roofing companies, ensure that the contractor is
appropriately licensed as a Licensed Construction Supervisor and a
Registered Home Improvement Contractor with the Massachusetts Dept. of
Public Safety's Board of Building Regulations and Standards (“BBRS”). Click here to look up a
license number with the Office of Consumer
Affairs in Massachusetts.
